I went with George, Bob (owner of some of area one) and Jules to survey the natural hunt site(s) on Sunday the 20th. There are 3 bottle dumps, an old shoe factory, a number of cellar holes, several large fields, and wooded areas. The area was open farm fields in the colonial days. This site includes the first establishments of the Alstead area.
The areas will be broken into Tuesday only hunt area, Tuesday/Wednesday hunt area, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday hunt area and All areas for the Friday hunt. Each day will have virgin ground, so that those hunting one or more specific days only will have an opportunity to have an un-hunted area, to swing.
The owner of area one/day one has hunted some of this site in the past, but be sure there is a lot of area one/day one that has not been searched. Most of what Bob has done is where we will park, near his house. (Two porta potties will be set up there, one male and one female).
From the owner, he has never seen anyone hunt these areas. He has gotten us the permissions from his neighbors to hunt their fields and woods. They have not given permissions in the past. So, this site should produce some great finds.
Bob will give a brief history of the area each morning.
This hunt is down the road a couple miles from the Pratt farm that we did a couple of times in the past. There is no connection between the two sites, other than the two old roads passing to town. One of the roads (class 6) is the back border of the hunt sites. (Not visible on google earth.)
We'll do a fundraising raffle each morning. Be prepared for inclement weather. Bring your own everything. I will have my red Tacoma at the bottom of the driveway leading up to the parking area. No parking on Homestead Road.
Bob and his neighbors have given us permissions to hunt this area. Please be respectful, you guys have been tremendous ambassadors for the sport in the past, so we expect the same for this year.
I hope you all had a good winter and are ready to get out and do some swinging. I'm sure the area will produce some great finds. As always, we all know nothing is for sure, but George always makes a huge effort to find great virgin hunt sites for us. (not an easy task, for sure)
Looking forward to seeing you all (well some of you anyways)
