To all 2016 BONE attendees: Kyle Meyerrose and myself will be hosting a seminar on Saturday, April 23, at 9 am. As a bonus, we will have a distinguished guest and extremely accomplished detectorist present, the one and only Butch Holcombe, owner and editor of American Digger Magazine. Our seminar will last one and half hours, and here's what we hope to cover:
- The Basics: the technology and proper use of your detector and accessories
- Recovery: proper recovery techniques to ensure the safe recovery of artifacts
- Preservation: how to best preserve your finds, along with some cleaning tips
- Permission: how to increase your chances of attaining permission
- Research: tips on researching and finding sites
- Ethics and Etiquette: the do's and dont's pertaining to metal detecting, including
information on laws and how to best represent and preserve the image of the hobby
Kyle Meyerrose has been metal detecting for nearly a decade, and he is also an accomplished rockhound, as well as having fifteen years' experience in the search for gold here in New England and in California. I am quite lucky to count him as a friend and detecting partner. His knowledge will not only inspire, but put you on the path to tangible results.
As for Butch Hiolcombe, his reputation precedes him and there really isn't much for me to add to his well-earned place in the metal detecting community. He is the ultimate guide and ambassador to this wonderful hobby of ours.
Mr. George Streeter has granted us the opportunity to not only share experiences and knowledge, but finds as well: Kyle Meyerrose and I will be exhibiting our best finds and will be available during exhibition hours to answer any questions. Mr. Butch Holcombe will by our side with a wealth of literary material available as well as his wonderful presence.
