Look for inside bends to work, behind big rocks and pick cracks in exposed bedrock if you find any. I've seen some good gold that came out of the Wild Ammonoosuc right by the campground. I've never prospected there myself but know some who have. I'm about 3 hours north of there and hope to make it down someday. Let us know how you did.  The treasure is in the day itself and the gold is just a bonus.
