I didn't find very much today. I found a couple buttons and buckles, and a tick crawling up my pants leg. 🙁 I'm basically getting used to the new forum. 😀

Keep the faith

You got some old buttons there. Yeah the ticks are almost as bad as the black flies....good thing ticks don't have wings or we'd be in trouble.

I've decided to pick out a pair of pants and a shirt to wear detecting only, and spray them with permethrin tick repellent, and let them dry before wearing them. The stuff is supposed to kill the ticks on contact. They are supposed to be really bad this year.

Keep the faith

Hi Earle,
The reason that I'm always dressed the same at hunts is that I do the same thing with my hunt clothes. They are just used for detecting and have been sprayed. The permethrin is supposed to be good through a wash or two.

Hey Todd. Just finished spraying a pair of pants with permethrin. Plan on trying to find a field, and, or a cellar hole this weekend, so hopefully, it will keep the little @#$#@^ off me.

If you have pets, keep the clothes you've sprayed with Permethrin well away from them.

You can buy clothes already treated and they work great.

This is true George. But $100+ for a pair of pants, and $100+ for a shirt that is already treated compaired to a $10 bottle to treat them yourself........well, I can afford the $10 bottle. 😀

Kind of funny how it is!  Early hunters in the   70s use  to think your finds were junk and worthless and there were no ticks.  When the  craze started hunters were looking for mainly coins  and finding tons of early silver. Back then we did not realize the value or history of many items. Many times what was thought of as junk  was thrown to the side or near tress and walls. Different from today when you find it hanging from trees. A suggestion, like the Marlborough Muster Field, if you feel or know a field has been hunted  long ago. detect   the tree islands &  line and walls!!  If you find a KG, you will have fun finding what follows.

Its good to be successful if done right. If you are not respectful, laws will close us down!!!
