Hi,

My name is Jim, I am new to this site. I found  what appears to be a cleaner shell. The measurements are 1 5/8 inches long and 3/4 inches at the base. It seems to be lead or similar alloy. It was found in three feet of water in the Mullica River near Sweet Water NJ. I think I attached the photo. I was using a Mine Lab CTX 3030.

I'm not into Civil War relics, but from seeing quite a few posted on different forums, my guess is that is a Williams cleaner. Nice find Jim.

Thank you 10X, that is what most people seem to think. It must weigh 2 oz. One of the guys from Eastern Western treasure mag. said he thinks it is a 900 cal. ramparts shell. Someone was using it as a sinker, there is a hole drilled through it.

You should take a measurement of the OD with a set of calipers to determine what cal. it is. I found this info on the three types of Williams cleaners, and they are all 58 cal.
